McDonalds Delivery in Shanghai
Posted by Mike in China Living, Food & Drink
It’s happened more than a few times in my time in Shanghai – a major craving for McDonalds food…
Nearly every morning, afternoon, and dinner I am forcing myself to eat Chinese food. It is convenient, cheap, and somewhat healthy (depending on the meal). This is vastly different than my diet in the United States, where I would eat American food one day, Chinese food the next, Mexican food the next, and Greek food the next. Variety was cheap and convenient. Even my company cafeteria had a great mix of sandwiches, salads, sushi, hot meals, Mexican food, etc. This change to nearly entirely Chinese food has led to a decrease in weight and energy and I have near panic attack cravings for something different. I miss burgers and I miss cheese.
This has changed. Slightly. I now know the secret to getting McDonalds Delivery in Shanghai! What’s great is, the process is extremely simple.
- Step 1: Call 4008-517517
- Step 2: Wait a bit until the recording mentions English service. Select this.
- Step 3: Offer your address.
- Step 4: Place your order.
- Step 5: Get your meal roughly 15 minutes later.
I’ve tried twice and have had no problems each time. I believe the charge is 6 RMB, but this likely is dependent on your location relative to the nearest McDonalds. The fries might be a bit soggy, but other than that McDonalds Delivery in Shanghai is surprisingly quick and good.

Hi,
I was wondering about the safety of food in China. The various news previously about tainted milk and whatnot is troubling. I have 3 kids, and the drink gallons of fresh milk right now. Is it difficult or expensive to get fresh milk there? Is cheese and beef also difficult and/or expensive to get?
I like your blog. It is very informative for me trying to find out as much as I can before heading to Shanghai.

Hi Shirley,
Thank you for the comment. I also drank a ton of milk in the USA, but I had to stop once coming out to China. I have a lot of trouble finding milk that isn’t thick like yogurt and the milk that they do sell just doesn’t taste well. You can import milk from Europe or Japan, but still, I’m not happy with it.
You can get cheese, but it is expensive here compared to in the USA.
Beef is fine. I have a meat shop around where I live so I get reasonably priced beef (not steak though) weekly. The beef is chopped up into pieces, so I generally cook this up with noodles for a meal.
I hope this helps!

Milk:
I got some tips before I came, and now just use UHT milk from New Zealand (Anchor or country life.. look for the NZ map) or France (president). Basically it is heat treated so that its long life, but not altered in any other way. takes a little getting used to, but now is fine. I was warned that not all milk in China is pasturised, hence I am using the UHT stuff. Milk is one of those things that is more expensive here in China.

Thanks for the tip Kiwi! I’ve still yet to find a milk that is even close to satisfactory, so I will surely check this out.
