Settled in Shanghai: 3 Weeks In
Posted by Mike in My Life
I’ve now been in Shanghai for almost 3 weeks. Unlike the last time I was here, things seem, well…normal.
I thought I would be in for a culture shock and I thought I would have reservations about quitting work or major cravings for wildlife and American food, but nothing. Strange.
I am finally in an apartment. I have internet that is fairly fast. I have heat and air conditioning. I have friends in the area. I am finally settled. I got my iPhone set up on a monthly plan. My Mandarin Language classes have begun.
Now that I am settled and am getting into a normal routine, I will begin to focus more on fun and work. You should see more regular updates to my blog in the near future. I am starting out with apartment information and will break down banking in China, the fake markets of Shanghai, and setting up internet in the future.

Hi Mike
I have been here for 3 months now and am still waiting for the culture shock. Like you everything became normal very quickly. I kept running into expats asking how I was coping – just fine! Love it here. I guess you need to be mentally ready and open.

Sue,
Glad everything worked out for you! It might be the case where you were ready for a change and enjoy everything that China has to offer. The only thing that irritates me every once in a while is customer service. You just need to know how to roll with the punches out here.
Best,
Mike
