Benefit of Shanghai Maglev Train

  • Get to mark off your list of “things to do in Shanghai”
  • Get to experience the fastest ground travel possible

Times of Travel

  • 6:45 AM – 9:30 PM

Speed of Train

  • Up to 431 km/hr (or about 268 MPH)

Duration

  • Roughly 8 minutes (30 km)

Things to Know Before Riding

  • The train only reaches maximum speed at certain times during the day. If you randomly go, there is a 50% chance that you will catch the train that only reaches 300 km/h. You can find out more details at the official site here: http://www.smtdc.com/en/jszl1_2.asp
  • Questions on tickets can be directed to the official phone number of 021-28907777
  • Trains leave every 15 minutes from 6:45 AM – 7:00 PM. From 7:00 PM – 9:30 PM, the train leaves every 20 minutes.
  • Keep your ticket stub for a discount to the Shanghai Maglev Museum (Reviewed later)
  • Although the train is fast, it will let you off at Longyang Station. This means that, to get to anywhere outside of this station will require you to go to the metro station or to get a taxi. This can lead to an inconvenience. When all is said and done, it doesn’t save a lot of time from simply taking the metro from the PuDong Airport.

Conclusion

Give the Shanghai Maglev Train a try, if even just once. Make sure you sit during a time period that allows top speed to be hit for most enjoyment. If you have a few moments, check out the Shanghai Maglev Museum once you reach Longyang Rd.
